Co-Founder and CTO Hyperloop One


Josh Giegel is the Co-Founder and CTO at Hyperloop One, Inc. He served as a Co-Founder of Hyperloop One, Inc. and has been its President of Engineering since July 5, 2016. Josh served as Senior Vice President of Engineering of Hyperloop One, Inc. until July 5, 2016, and served as its Vice President of Design & Analysis. Josh is leading the design and analysis of all major mechanical elements of the Hyperloop system. He has an extensive background in advanced fluid, thermal, thermodynamic and structural analysis, as well as a strong history in hardware-based development. He led research activities at Echogen Power Systems, a startup in the waste heat-to-power energy sector. He was the sole inventor of four novel supercritical CO2 power cycles that significantly improved efficiency and lowered cost. He also developed custom multi-objective, nonlinear power cycle optimization software. Prior to Echogen, he worked at SpaceX where he served as the lead analyst on six different rocket engines, including the Merlin 1D and SuperDraco family of engines. He has been a Director of Hyperloop One, Inc. since July 19, 2016. He received an Ass-Kicker award for his work identifying & replicating the Falcon 9 first flight anomaly and decisively protecting against future such events. He received an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University where he was a Graduate Engineering Fellow. He holds a BSME from Penn State University where he graduated with honors and was first in his class.
