After earning a doctorate (Ph.D.) in law at Paris II - Panthéon University (ASSAS), Hubert de Vauplane began his career with Banques Populaires in France as a financial lawyer. He then spent seven years at the stockbroker Oddo & Cie, first as a derivatives trader and then as head of the legal department. In 1994, he joined the legal department of the Bank Paribas, where he dealt with capital market operations and mergers and acquisitions. Shortly after the merger with BNP, he was appointed Legal Director for Corporate & Investment banking activities at BNP PARIBAS, in France and abroad (2002).

He continued his career with the Crédit Agricole group, first as Global Legal Director of the Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank (2007) where he managed the consequences of the financial crisis, then from January 2009 as Group General Counsel, Legal and Compliance of the Crédit Agricole, where he was in charge of the group’s complex reorganization operations and Crédit Agricole’s major litigations in France and abroad.

Hubert was a professor at Paris II-Panthéon Law University where he taught banking and financial law. He teaches now at Sciences Politiques Paris.

He is designated as an expert with the French Securities Commission (AMF) and the European Commission among other international institutions. Until May 2011, he was vice-chairman of the European Financial Lawyers Markets Group (EFLMG) with the European Central Bank and chairman of Association for Banking and Financial Law (AEDBF) from 2009 to 2011.

Since 2012, he is a member of the Financial Market Law Committee (London).

He has written articles and reference books on banking and financial law, one of which received an award from the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques (1999). He also writes various legal columns for specialist journals.
