Ed Husic

Federal Member for Chifley Federal Parliament

Ed Husic has been the Federal Member for Chifley since 2010. He was re-elected for his fourth term at the 2019 Federal Election.

Ed was a Shadow Minister covering the Human Services and Digital Economy portfolios (currently on professional hiatus) - however, he is currently the Deputy Chair of the House of Reps Communications and Arts Committee.

The seat of Chifley sits within Western Sydney, with its boundaries stretching from Mount Druitt to Blacktown.

Ed's big focus locally is on improving education and employment opportunities - for an electorate where over 30% of residents are under the age of 19. A part of that focus is finding ways of building links between corporate, government and NGO players to help overcome the type of inter-generational unemployment that has held back some people in our area.

He has always had a strong interest in all things tech and championing our nation's growing digital economy. Besides setting up the Federal Parliamentary Labor Digital Economy Group, he is bringing together policymakers and industry on matters affecting the sector.

He has served as Parliamentary Secretary for Broadband and Shadow Minister to the Shadow Treasurer and Startups focussing on ways to promote a better environment for boosting the growth of start-ups, employment, and digital entrepreneurship.

In his shadow ministerial areas of responsibility, Ed is concentrating on what we can do to help get work for the jobless now - and deal with the massive changes expected in Australia's job market through automation and the technological change.
