Alison Nankivell has worked in the Canadian and Asia business field for the past 25 years. From 1990 to 1995, she lived in Hong Kong and Beijing where she served as a China economic analyst and editor for the Economist Intelligence Unit. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Ms. Nankivell also undertook independent consulting work for a number of multilateral agencies with operations in China.

In February 1998, Ms. Nankivell joined Export Development Canada (EDC) and in 2000 moved to Beijing to serve as EDC’s chief representative for Greater China. In 2004, she returned to EDC’s head office in Canada to work first in financing and then in fund investment where she helped build out the Canadian venture capital and Asia fund investment platform for EDC's Equity Team. From August 2008 to July 2011, Ms. Nankivell was posted to Beijing to manage EDC Equity’s Asia private equity fund program and then moved to become Head of Funds overseeing EDC's global fund investment program.

In November 2012, Ms. Nankivell joined Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan as Director of Funds, Asia for Teachers' Private Capital.

In August 2013, she moved to the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) as Vice President in charge of the Venture Capital Action Plan (VCAP), a $1.2 billion venture capital fund program focused on investing in Canadian and North American venture capital funds active in Canada. In April 2015, Ms. Nankivell was made Vice President, Co-investments and Government Initiatives, responsible for BDC Capital's private equity and ventured co-investment activity and in January 2016, she assumed responsibility for BDC Capital's overall funds and co-investment program.

Ms. Nankivell has an undergraduate degree in business and economics from the University of Toronto and a Masters in Public Policy and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has also obtained her Charter Financial Analyst Designation.
