Akiko Taguchi

Head of Open Innovation LumenLab

Akiko Taguchi joined LumenLab in September 2015. Her role is to drive forward new revenue opportunities in health and wealth. Akiko has 17 years of professional experience in the fields of finance and investments in Asia and her experience and network with Japanese corporates, entrepreneurs, and investors are particularly helpful in driving Japan-related projects forward.

Previously, Akiko founded Newton Advisers in Singapore to provide ultra-high net worth family offices access to investment opportunities in Southeast Asia. Over 5 years, she built networks among investors and entrepreneurs, advised entrepreneurs on growth and fundraising strategies, and identified and realized opportunities for investment and exits in listed and private assets in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar.

Prior to Newton Advisers, Akiko worked at Temasek Holdings in Singapore, where she was involved in strategic deep-dive initiatives to identify areas of core value creation in portfolio companies, and successfully arranged follow-on funding for venture capital during the global financial crisis.

Akiko moved to Singapore in 2006 to set up the Singapore office for the long-only MAC Asset Management (AUM$4b), where she was an investment analyst for listed Japan equities. In Tokyo, she previously identified and executed investment opportunities in Japan for private equity firm Colony Capital, advised on M&A opportunities in the consumer and healthcare sectors at Nikko Citigroup, and searched at Digital Garage for innovative B2C startups in the US for adaptation to the Japanese market.

Akiko started her career at Itochu Corporation in Japan. She has an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in history, and an LLB degree from Kyoto University in law. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
